Gummy Slabs
I’ve learned that sugar is a difficult material to make candy out of. Depending on what you’re making (carmel, jelly, gummy, lollipop, etc.,) you must boil it to a very certain temperature for each one. Boil your sugar too hot, and you’ve ruined your lollipop. Boil it too low, and your lollipop won’t be hard.
In science class last week, I decided to try to make some gummy...
Great Artists
I did something interesting. For the entire 2.5 hours of the Children’s School Great Artists night, via a combination of video and text chat, I had conversations with attendees in the exhibit room. The way it worked was that I was in a different room and they could see live video + audio of me and could interact by typing messages to me on their keyboard.
To clarify: I could not see them. I...

Just like last year, the 7th and 8th grades just held mock trials.
Each one of us was either be a defender or prosecutor for a Ms. Monica Hewitt, being tried for the murder of Jennifer While, a parachutist whose parachute cords were allegedly cut by...

In 8th grade humanities, we’ve been debating a few different topics in class lately:
Capital Punishment
Just like as I did in the radical parties project, I volunteered to be in the group advocating for the view contrary to mine. I along with Tati, David, Tatso, had to advocate in favor capital punishment to the other half of the class.
If you don’t know me, I’m an ardent critic...

If I’m doing nothing, I often struggle in making the leap to doing things, even things that I know would engage me.
Once I make that leap, though, the work becomes a lot easier—like taking the plunge into a cool swimming pool on a warm, comfortable summer day. Initially, the pool feels freezing, but a few minutes of treading water will make me quite comfortable.
On the other hand, if...
