This shot, on the other hand, carries some weight. We see a policeman waking up and threatening a homeless man who is sleeping in a bus shelter.
When I saw this scene play out before me in real life, I felt compelled to document it. And I moved forward with purpose, passion. The shot was laden with meaning to me right from the start.
It isn’t as well-composed or ‘pretty’ as my other shot, but in the end, it’s much more fulfilling.
It makes you think. It sparks dialogue. It makes you ask yourself questions.
“Who is in the right?”
“Should the homeless man be allowed to sleep there?”
“What’s his story?”
“This is what the world is like—people with almost nothing getting woken up with what little they have taken from them.”
This kind of shot broadens horizons. It can inspire action. It will lead you to make more informed decisions with a better understanding of the world.
I think this is my favorite kind of photography.
